The Simurgh (سیمرغ) is one of the most beloved legendary creatures of Persian mythology: a giant, benevolent bird said to live on the Alborz mountains and to carry the wisdom of the ages. In Ferdowsi's Shahnameh (The Book of Kings), the Simurgh rescues and raises the abandoned child Zal, the father of the hero Rostam, and later helps heal the wounds of Rostam himself. In Attar's Conference of the Birds, thirty birds set out on a long journey to find her, and discover that si morgh (سی مرغ) means "thirty birds" in Persian.
This design shows her as a golden-feathered bird with wings spread wide and long, flowing tail feathers touched with teal and deep red.
